The Souls We Carry

Original artwork by Cristina Gabriela.

In The Souls We Carry, a tree grows inside a circular field of blue, watched by four small human presences. Beneath it, three luminous forms appear enclosed within dark rings, like fragments of life held inside the body of the work.

The composition can be seen as a symbolic figure, a vessel or an interior world. The tree becomes both origin and memory, while the small silhouettes introduce a language that continues throughout Cristina Gabriela’s practice: the human presence reduced to its most essential form.

The painting asks what remains inside us from the people, experiences and invisible connections that have shaped our existence. Its answer is held within the quiet coexistence of form, darkness and light.
