The Descent of Light is an original acrylic painting from the artist’s earlier body of work, Expressions in Abstract.

The composition explores the moment when light becomes more than illumination—it becomes presence. A radiant vertical descent emerges from a luminous threshold, drawing together a gathering of silent figures below. Rather than depicting a specific place or event, the work reflects on the relationship between the human spirit and the unknown, where light is experienced as transformation rather than destination.

The surrounding darkness does not oppose the light; instead, it reveals it. Small human presences appear suspended between shadow and radiance, emphasizing both the fragility of the individual and the immensity of what calls them forward.

Created before the development of Cristina Gabriela’s current figurative language, The Descent of Light already introduces themes that continue throughout her practice: the search for meaning, the dialogue between presence and absence, and the quiet tension between the visible and the invisible.

The artwork was presented in Dubai during Continuum: Past, Present, Future, exhibited with Sakku Art.
