The Fragments of Becoming
Fragments rarely disappear.
They remain within us, carrying the memory of places, experiences, and the lives we have lived. The Fragments of Becoming transforms natural remnants into a landscape of quiet rebirth.
At its centre, a solitary terracotta figure sits beneath an organic arch formed entirely from corals and shells. The arch is neither a shelter nor a monument. It becomes a living threshold where nature, memory, and humanity meet. Around it, fragments emerge from a dark volcanic terrain, suggesting that even what appears broken continues to hold the possibility of becoming.
The work reflects on transformation rather than loss. Every coral, every shell, every textured surface once belonged to another living world. Reassembled together, they speak of resilience, continuity, and the silent beauty that can arise from what time leaves behind.
Rather than offering a narrative, the sculpture invites contemplation. It asks whether our own becoming is built not despite our fragments, but because of them.
