Metaxy

Metaxy exists in the space between states: between darkness and light, presence and disappearance, separation and belonging. Its title comes from the ancient Greek word for “the between”—an interval that is neither one thing nor the other, yet holds both at once.

The figures appear to merge without fully becoming one. One leans toward the light while the other remains within shadow, their bodies suspended in an ambiguous moment of closeness, surrender or departure. It is impossible to know whether they are holding one another, becoming one another, or slowly separating.

The painting does not resolve this uncertainty. It remains inside it.

Metaxy asks where darkness and light truly meet—not around us, but within us—and whether the space between them is a boundary, a passage, or the place where our deepest transformations begin.
